Enhanced recovery pathways (ERPs), which have been shown to reduce morbidity, mortality, and length of stay in elderly patients, have no detrimental effect on patient-reported outcome measures (PROM), according to this study. Researchers collected Oxford Hip and Knee Scores pre-and postoperatively, as well as demographic data for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in the UK. The study’s findings suggest that elderly patients, aged 85 or older, saw a similar benefit to younger patients in outcome at six months and at 24 months following elective hip and knee arthroplasty on an ERP.
