NephCure, a nonprofit organization committed to finding better treatments and a cure for rare kidney diseases, has announced that the first IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) Awareness Day will occur on September 26, 2024. The day is intended to promote the importance of early diagnosis and proactive treatment of IgAN and provide critical resources for affected patients.
Coinciding with IgAN Awareness Day, NephCure is launching a patient-facing digital campaign called “Silent but Serious: Understanding IgA Nephropathy,” featuring personal stories from IgAN patients and several resources for education and support.
In addition, NephCure will host a free, virtual IgAN Awareness Day Town Hall at 7:30 pm EDT. The event will bring together patients, caregivers, and medical professionals to discuss the latest advancements in IgAN treatment, share patient testimonials, and provide information about the newly launched IgAN Patient Assistance Program.
Raising IgAN awareness is particularly important because up to 40% of patients show no recognizable symptoms at the time of diagnosis. Despite its slow progression, there is a growing urgency to treat IgAN, because even patients with lower levels of proteinuria are at risk of progressing to end-stage renal disease.
