Payal Kohli, MD, FACC

Payal Kohli, MD, is a noninvasive cardiologist and managing partner of Cherry Creek Heart in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Kohli earned her undergraduate degree from MIT with a perfect GPA and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, magna cum laude.  She completed her Internal Medicine training at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital and her Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship from University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

She has served as a Cardiovascular Research Fellow with the TIMI Study Group in the Cardiovascular Division at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where she authored and pioneered the early work with PCSK9 inhibitors in clinical trials, including publication of the LAPLACE Phase II trial. During her fellowship at UCSF, Dr. Kohli led research on PCSK9 regulation in high-risk populations with chronic inflammatory conditions, such as HIV and Hepatitis C co-infection.  For this work, she was received multiple honors and Young Investigator Awards, including from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Clinically, Dr. Kohli’s interests are in preventive cardiology, echocardiography and heart disease in women.  She has completed multiple advanced fellowships, including fellowships in both advanced echocardiography and cardiovascular disease prevention.  She has published dozens of original publications and has spoken and presented internationally on cardiovascular clinical research.  She has published in leading journals, including JAMALancetCirculation, and JACC. She was the Associate Editor of JACC Imaging, the inaugural Media Editor for JACC and is the current section editor of Women and Ischemic Heart Disease for Current Atherosclerosis.  She is also on the editorial board for the Prevention Council of ACC.org and is the Chief Editor in Cardiology Consult on Medscape.  In addition, she is the On-Air Medical Expert for 9News, the local NBC affiliate in Denver and the medical expert for the national show, Daily Blast Live.  Dr. Kohli has won numerous awards and in her spare time, enjoys writing about the practice of medicine and challenges faced by physicians.
