Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by musculoskeletal pain that is widespread, autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction, and is often accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. In 2010, the American College of Rheumatology added “unfreshing” sleep in its preliminary diagnostic criteria for FM, as well as the measurement of the severity of symptoms.

In a study by the European Medical Journal, 50 female patients with FM and 50 healthy females underwent an 18 tender point examination and described the intensity of their somatic pain. The subjects were then given a sleep questionnaire to evaluate any sleeping complaints.
