The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has joined together with the nonprofit Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) to promote environmentally sustainable practices in kidney care through the Global Environmental Evolution in Nephrology and Kidney Care (GREEN-K) initiative.

The primary goals of GREEN-K are:

  • Inspiring engagement: Encourage health care professionals and the public to join the CSH Kidney Care Sustainability Network.
  • Sharing insights: Disseminate findings and resources from KitNewCare, an EU-funded sustainability and climate-neutrality project, to a broad audience.
  • Increasing impact: Expand the influence and activities of kidney care sustainability champions in UK kidney care units.
  • Promoting collaboration: Motivate various medical specialties to participate in ISN and CSH sustainability efforts.
  • Developing fellowship programs: Create an international fellowship program through the joint efforts of ISN and CSH.

Kidney therapies, particularly dialysis, have a high climate impact, leading many in the nephrology community to call for more sustainable practices. With the GREEN-K initiative, ISN and CSH hope to promote best practices in sustainable kidney care and drive substantial progress.

Additional details about GREEN-K can be found on the ISN website.
