As per AHA board members, the AHA Center for Health Innovation will focus its early work on enhancing strategic partnerships, market intelligence, and development of leadership. The center’s overarching goal is to not only facilitate health systems coping with the changing healthcare field, but to make the most out of the medical technologies available as well.

“The AHA has the responsibility and opportunity to take action on the most pressing health care issues today,” says the AHA on their page about the Center. “We embrace this opportunity to drive meaningful progress, and to do so by collaborating with our hospital and health system members, government agencies, business partners, community partners, patients, and families.”

The creation of this center supplements the AHA’s preexisting efforts to foster creativity in healthcare, with the 2018 AHA Innovation Challenge currently underway. This contest awards the top three proposals with cash prizes up to $100,000 to help bring their concept to life. The AHA also offers a 3-month training program, Innovation 90 Boot Camp, that is designed to educate hospital officials on new innovative breakthroughs being used in many fields, including rapid development, design innovation, automated prototyping and several others.

The AHA Center for Health Innovation will actively provide health systems with updates and perspective on powerful new technologies and how they are transforming healthcare practices. This will ultimately help healthcare management staff aware of these new innovations and how they can potentially affect patient care.

Another interesting aspect of healthcare that the AHA plans to address with this new center is cyber threats. To enforce efforts towards security, AHA plans to provide hospitals with resources that allow them to analyze their cyber risk, vulnerabilities, and prepare their technology departments to better avoid new cyber threats.

The AHA claims that, “The AHA Center for Health Innovation is a culmination of the progress we’ve made and the positive results we’ve achieved across the following AHA affiliate organizations and their initiatives.”
