DocWire will be providing Daily Reports to its members as the American Society of Hematology kicks off its 60th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, the premier event in malignant and non-malignant hematology. This year’s meeting and exposition is taking place December 1-3, in sunny San Diego, California.

Continuing in its great tradition of excellence, this year’s “scientific sessions will explore important themes across the field of hematology such as epigenetic mechanisms, immunology and immunotherapy, red cell biology and the link between metabolism and hematologic disease,” according to ASH President Alexis Thompson, MD.

Key among these important themes is research into sickle cell disease. ASH recently renewed its commitment to developing new therapies for sickle cell with the launch of a sickle cell disease clinical trials network, which aims to address the inefficiencies and redundancies of the current research landscape by centralizing administrative functions and facilitating data sharing.

Delivered to you each day, DocWire’s sickle cell anemia coverage will include coverage of the latest research on improving sickle cell disease outcomes in the United States and Africa, the use of gene editing for sickle cell, and a look at health outcomes research for patients with this condition.
