Perceived Benefits, Rationale and Preferences of Exercises Utilized Within Pilates Group Exercise Programs for People with Chronic Musculoskeletal Conditions: A Questionnaire of Pilates-Trained Physiotherapists

Pilates exercises produce positive benefits for people with musculoskeletal conditions, including reducing pain. In this study, researchers aimed to examine the views of Pilates-trained physiotherapists in relation to the perceived benefits of exercise prescription in Pilates classes. They collected electronic questionnaire data on 15 Pilates-trained physiotherapists who regularly ran Pilates exercise classes within seven clinics for people with chronic musculoskeletal conditions. According to the study results, physiotherapists felt that Pilates classes facilitated an active lifestyle. They implemented a combination of exercises in each class to work the main muscle groups, and some used specific exercises related to the patients’ needs.
