Common mental disorders within chronic inflammatory disorders: a primary care database prospective investigation

This prospective cohort study focused on assessing the correlation between inflammatory disorders and depression and anxiety onset in a primary care context. Researchers recruited 538,707 participants the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink diagnosed with an inflammatory disorder between 2001 and 2016, matching them with patients without an inflammatory disorder based on age, gender, practice and index date. The study’s results suggest that primary care patients with inflammatory disorders, particularly those with early-onset disorders, have elevated rates of depression and anxiety incidence. Researchers said that this finding may reflect the impact of the underlying disease on patients’ quality of life.
