The Course of Back pain in the Canadian Population: Trajectories, Predictors, and Outcomes

In a recent study, researchers evaluated the prevalence of back pain and associated factors, including medication and healthcare trends. In a representative sample of the Canadian population, just under half of patients reported back pain, of whom roughly one in five experienced persistent back pain. There was a general trend of most to least use of healthcare and medication among patients whose back pain was persistent, developing, recovering, and occasional. Patients with recovering pain also had an increasing trajectory of opioids and anti-depressant use.
