In part of four an insightful disease-specific series on lung cancer, The Fellow on Call team is joined by Evan Osmundson, MD, PhD, to speak about the fundamentals of radiation oncology in the treatment of lung cancer and other malignancies. Dr. Osmundson, an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, provided a detailed picture of what happens what a case is referred to radiation oncology (rad onc). The group explored the necessary imaging modalities needed prior to patient being sent to rad onc, how to determine the “maximum dose” of radiation to administered, and of course, how to counsel patients on expected side effects.
