Researchers for this study examined records from 533,426 Japanese patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and what impact that the timing of emergency medical responders (EMRs) assisted with bystander intervention had on one-month neurologically intact survival. The results suggested an upper limit of 13 minutes for EMR response time when bystanders provided cardiopulmonary resuscitation plus defibrillation and 11 minutes when they did so without a defibrillation, both of which were associated with improved one-month neurologically intact survival.
