Trends in Noncardiovascular Comorbidities in Hospitalized HF Patients

By DocWire News Editors - Last Updated: May 2, 2023

This analysis of data from the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure (HF) Registry included data on 207,984 patients and looked specifically at length of hospital stay less than four days, in-hospital mortality, 30-day mortality from hospital admission, 30-day call-cause readmission, and 30-day HF readmission. According to the results, there was a decline in patients with zero comorbidities (22% to 16%, P<0.0001) and an increase in patients with 3 three or more comorbidities (18% to 29%; P<0.0001). The authors concluded that patients admitted for HF “have an increasing number of noncardiovascular comorbidities over time, which are associated with worse outcomes.”
