A nationwide cohort study looking at clinical outcomes in patients with solitary atrial flutter who both develop and do not develop atrial fibrillation (AFib) suggested that patients with solitary atrial flutter and without anticoagulation therapy had better outcomes than other groups in the analysis. The study population consisted of 230,367 patients without anticoagulation therapy in the no anticoagulation/solitary atrial flutter cohort, 8,064 in the solitary atrial flutter cohort, and 4,495 in the atrial flutter with subsequent AFib cohort. The results suggested that the solitary atrial flutter with no anticoagulation cohort had lower incidences of ischemic stroke and major bleeding, compared to the atrial flutter with AFib and solitary AFib groups.
