This paper examined the prognostic significance of atrioventricular conduction disturbance (PR interval prolongation) on adverse cardiac events in patients with surgically repaired tetralogy of Fallot. The analysis included 176 patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot who evaluated their correlation with right ventricular (RV) volume and function measured by cardiac MRI and the significance as a risk factor of adverse cardiac events. The results indicated that a progressive prolongation of PR interval over the 10-year follow-up period. There were correlations between PR interval prolongation and RV enlargement or dysfunction. PR interval prolongation was also a significant risk factor for lethal ventricular arrhythmias. The researchers concluded in their abstract that “these results indicate that progressive atrioventricular conduction disturbance is correlated with right ventricular enlargement and could be a useful predictor for increased risk of lethal ventricular arrhythmias in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot.”
