Early-onset Atrial Tachyarrhythmia Linked with Late-onset Recurrence after Ablation

This study focused on the function of common pulmonary vein isolation on the risk of recurrent atrial tachyarrhythmia (ATA) after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). The study included 191 patients who received radiofrequency catheter ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AFib) at a single center. The researchers gathered and compared results of computed tomography and incidence of early- to late-onset recurrence of ATA. According to the results, the ATA recurrence group had larger left atrial size, larger left atrial end-diastolic and systolic volumes, and a higher incidence of early-onset ATA recurrence. The presence of common pulmonary vein and early-onset recurrence were independently associated with late-onset ATA recurrence. “In patients with paroxysmal AFib, early‐onset recurrence of ATA and the presence of common pulmonary vein were independently associated with late‐onset recurrent ATA after radiofrequency catheter ablation,” the authors concluded.
