Big Data, Big Problems

What’s the big issue with “big data?”

Gerd Burmester, MD, of the Charité Universitatsmedizin Berlin and Humboldt University, said that “big data” could eventually disruption the field of rheumatology, with the possibility that patients could actually be digitally assessed, diagnosed, and treated – all without actually seeing a live rheumatology, according to a report by Healio Rheumatology.

Dr. Burmester, who was speaking at the 2018 Congress of Clinical Rheumatology, said that more than 150 exabytes on health care patient data already exist, and the next decade will be seeing more people using online tools to diagnose themselves, all without physician involvement.
