Association Between Diabetes and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

A meta-analysis published in Diabetes & Metabolism found an association between T2DM and non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL). A query of PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase through March 11 yielded 20 relevant articles with data from 35 cohort studies. Researchers used a random-effects model to calculate the summary relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A total of 31 summary RRs were calculated for T2DM, and the summary RR was 1.20 (95% CI: 1.12–1.30, I2 = 84.7%). Subgroup analyses found the risk was significantly greater among Asian patients. In sensitivity analyses, there was a negative correlation between diabetes duration and NHL: NHL risk was highest among patients who were diagnosed with diabetes in the last one to two years.
