Woman with History of Drug Abuse and Infection Reports Breath Shortness and Fatigue

In this patient case, a 33-year-old woman reported shortness of breath and fatigue that progressively worsened over the past two days. She reported a past history of intravenous drug abuse (IVDA) and was hospitalized for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infective endocarditis six months prior, requiring a tricuspid valvectomy. Due to her IVDA history, she was denied a valve replacement. She did not show signs of overt respiratory distress and trace edema was found in her lower extremities but no calf tenderness to palpitation was present. The patient was diagnosed with right ventricular overload.
