This study explored whether differences in electrical function and lead survival exist between conventional transvenous pacing leads and the Medtronic SelectSecure pacing leads. The longitudinal cohort study compared the two over a 72-month follow-up. The cohort consisted of 141 subjects in each group. Long-term survival was high in both lead groups (P=0.035). SelectSecure had sufficient function but a higher capture threshold (P<0.001) and required increased energy to pace (P=0.001). The differences were offset by the advances. The authors reported a low lead fracture rate in both study groups.
