Feasibility Study: His-Optimized CRT for Maximal Electrical Resynchronization

This paper sought to assess whether cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) could be optimized by His bundle pacing followed by left ventricular (LV) pacing. The researchers attempted permanent His bundle pacing, followed by LV pacing, in 27 patients referred for CRT, assessing echocardiographic parameters and NYHA functional class at baseline and follow-up. The results indicated that His-optimized CRT was associated with improved electrical pacing, which led to improved heart function and NYHA functional class. “In this feasibility cohort, HOT-CRT resulted in improved electrical resynchronization,” the researchers wrote. “His-optimized CRT may improve clinical and echocardiographic outcomes in advanced heart failure patients requiring CRT.”
